Our Coaching
THS has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance to provide coaching and student athlete workshops. A positive approach gets the most from youth and high school athletes, which is what coaches, parents and the athletes themselves want. Staying positive also helps youth get the most out of sports.
- Encouraging athletes with positive reinforcement helps them hear and heed the necessary corrections. With that winning combination of truthful, specific praise and constructive criticism, athletic performance improves and so do the chances that kids stick with sports longer and learn all the valuable life lessons inherently available through organized competition.
- Academic research and real-world scoreboard results from millions of coaches, parents and athletes that PCA has trained and educated prove what the pro and college coaches on PCA’s National Advisory Board already know: Positive is powerful.
Benefits of these workshops that were held during the 2018-19 school year include:
- Coaches are some of the world’s most important, impactful people. They are entrusted with young lives, often spending more time with them than their parents and teachers do. Coaches lead youth athletes in developing their skills and psyches in settings that can offer crushing parental and peer pressure, with a stark line between success and failure, winning and losing on display for all to see….That’s why it is critical that youth have a positive coach, a Double-Goal Coach®, who pursues winning and the even more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. That way, no matter the outcome of a contest, all children can take a valuable, enriching experience from sports and apply it to the rest of their lives.
- Youth athletes want to have fun. In organized sports, that often depends on coaches, parents and school or organizational leaders creating a fun environment, one where the athletes receive a reasonable amount of playing time, so they can improve and learn life lessons such as the importance of hard work and persistence, free of fear that a mistake will incur the wrath of coaches, parents or teammates….Regardless of level of athletic achievement, the youth athlete who takes the life lesson that effort is both enjoyable and necessary for any level of success is a winner. In that environment, any child can become a Triple-Impact Competitor®, impacting sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the sport as a whole.
